A Note to 2020 and Those Who Endured it.

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

Dear 2020,

You were a year filled with home workouts, homemade bread, and a lot of hand-washing, but you were also a year filled with loss, sadness, and confusion. In the midst of these struggles, you gave us time. Thanks to you, we grew stronger in so many ways. We found new challenges, and we learned how to tackle them. We learned new recipes and tried new foods, and some of us found new hobbies to love. For those of us with a love for fitness, many of us were left at home with little to no workout equipment, and some of us were stranded without the knowledge needed to create a home workout. The stores and every website was sold out of any piece of equipment you could think of. Thanks to you, I only own a single 30lb dumbbell and a single 15lb dumbbell (both of which were bought 5 months after quarantine began), and towards August, I was able to purchase a barbell and two 35lb bumper plates. Covid, my dear, I live in a 725 sq. ft. apartment. It does not have room for gym equipment. But in 2020, we all made room.

This past year, in my crowded living room, I learned dedication and persistence. I learned what it meant to set aside time to take care of my body. I tried new programs, I did challenges, and I even became a Certified Personal Trainer. You were one of the worst years, and yet I learned to love myself so much more.

So, thank you. Thank you for the challenges, thank you for the new experiences, but most of all, thank you for the time to learn to love myself for who I am.

Signed,

Someone who Endured
